The Adopted Child

Most of the profiles for persons with the surname ROSLING on WikiTree are the ones that I have added. On 16th September 2016 I was alerted to an amended entry and investigated further. This person was a part of the family that had moved to an area near Bristol, England.

The following morning I received a reply and more information followed later.

Meanwhile I decided it may be worth checking if there were any new profiles I may have missed that had a connection to the ROSLING ONS.

This was when I came across the following profile.

I was inrigued to know how a child born in India was adopted by a family in Kent who appeared to be unrelated. Could I find out who her parents were and why she may have been adopted.

I wonder if this person is related to Nellie.

I have viewed the image of the original on Find My Past.

I have found records for Robert Alfred Rosling showing that he married Annie Hope in 1894 in Colchester and she died 20 Jan 1902 could have been as a consequence of childbirth.

He was in India until 12 Dec 1901 when he was posted to South Africa. His army record can be found on the Ancestry website. I have downloaded a copy and will discuss more about him in my next post.

Robert moved to live with his brother in Lincolnshire when he left the army in 1907.

If Alfred Maurice survived what happened to him.

A search at Ancestry finds him in Lincoln having trained as a nurse at Bracebridge Mental Hospital. He died in Lincoln in 1971.

I will continue this in my next post.

This first post is going to be rather short and is just an introduction.

I hope to add items that may be of interest to this blog as I find them and if you find something or someone by the name of ROSLING then please get in touch with me.

I am just starting out on this one name study and have started with what I know of the family. The branch I am starting with moved from Lincolnshire to neighbouring Rutland in 1890s so my research will be largely concentrating on Lincolnshire which is where this surname appears to have originated in England.

The branches have spread out and as I research each family I will follow their movements across the country and in some cases across the globe.
